Thank You Intracoastal Realty!

I applied for a grant from Intracoastal Realty, to buy critical thinking/problem solving activities, mainly for my math students.  I am proud to say that they gave me the grant, and I have purchased some fun activities for the students.  Here are some pictures of students at "work" using our new materials.  Thanks to Intracoastal Realty for providing the funds to purchase these materials.

China!!

Here are the first pictures from Ms. Costner, in China!  I have taken parts of her emails and put them in the blog, so you will know where she has been.  Enjoy!   "Today, we are visiting the Forbidden City. Navigating around China is so difficult!

"I've had some good food and some bad food here. One night at dinner, they brought a dead fish out to our table to approve it and then cooked it and we ate it! It still had the head on, but it was delicious. It was covered in sweet and sour sauce!"

"We went to the Lama Temple. It was so beautiful! I am including pictures in this email."

We had a UNCW teacher intern for the third quarter.  Her name was Ms. Costner.  She spent nine weeks with us and is now in China, completing her internship.  We enjoyed having her in our class, and we gave her a going-away gift on her last day.  Here are some pictures of Ms. Costner with all of her gifts and with the class.

Be on the lookout for updates from Ms. Costner, in China.  We will be skyping with her soon!

Tryon Palace Field Trip

In December, again the whole fourth grade went on a field trip.  This time we went to Tryon Palace in New Bern, NC.  It was the first capital of our state.  The students got to tour the governor's mansion and other original homes around the palace.  They got to pretend like they lived back in the time of Tryon Palace when they visited the Hay House.  Mr. and Mrs. Hay showed the students how they cooked and the students got to assist Mrs. Hay in making Christmas tree decorations out of dough.  Mr. Hay talked to them about some of the games his children liked to play and showed how stockings used to be hung on the stair rails.  Hanging them at the fireplace was much too dangerous!  We had a great time and brought back much information to share!

Organ Presentation and Recital

Organ Recital

After Thanksgiving, the entire fourth grade attended an organ recital.  Beforehand, Mr. Doug Leightenheimer came to Eaton to give us information about pipe organs.  We watched a short video about different parts of a pipe organ and Mr. Leightenheimer also brought examples of some pipes.  We learned that the smallest pipes make the highest sounds while the largest pipes make the lowest sounds.  After the recital, we got to hear the pipe organ up close and actually view how it works from the console to the pipe chambers!  It was a great learning experience for us all!
